Hurriyat (G) demands immediate release of political prisoners

Srinagar:Terming the continuous imprisonment of Hurriyat (G) leaders Masarat Alam Bhat, Amir Hamza, Mushtaq-ul-Islam and Nasir Abdullah Pattan, police raids at the residence of district president Shopian Shakeel Ahamad Yatoo and the registration of fresh cases against Abdul Hameed Parray, Showkat Ahamad Hakeem, Assadullah Parray, Mehraj-ud-din Nanda and Sajad Ahmad in police station Hajan as ‘political vengeance and state terrorism’, Hurriyat Conference (G) Tuesday demanded immediate release of all the political prisoners.

In a statement Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said the army and police came into action immediately after the announcement of elections was made and they have formally started the crackdown against the pro-freedom leadership. In a statement issued to the press, Hurriyat spokesman
He said that the situation after the floods generated the hope that the state government will change its tough stand towards the political prisoners of Kashmir and they will release all the pro-freedom people including Masarat Alam Bhat, Amir Hamza, Mushtaq-ul-Islam and Nasir Abdullah Pattan “but Omer Abdullah government not only acted to the contrary of that but in the backdrop of the election drama they have started the process of arrests and raids and harassment to the common people of the Kashmir.”
Akbar said the district president Shopian Shakeel Ahamad Yatoo is a well known personality of his area and the way in which he worked and helped the affected people of the area during the recent floods was highly appreciated by the people. “He is although day and night engaged in the relief works but the task force personals have started harassing his family members. A joint team of task force camp situated Imam Sahab Shopian and CRPF personals yesterday evening raided the residence of Shakeel Ahmad Yatoo and threatened his family members and even they took joint photograph of his family and pressurized them to present Shakeel at the camp,” he said.
“They gave no reason for the photograph and the raid and at this occasion they also threatened and misbehaved with his daughter. Hurriyat took serious notice of the incident and decided to raise this matter with the human rights organizations. In Sonawari Hajan, police arrested 5 activists of Hurriyat including Abdul Hameed Parray and Showkat Ahamad Hakeem early morning on 27 October but if although all other pro-freedom people were released in the evening but the said activists of Hajan are not only still in detention but a fresh case has been registered against them,” the Hurriyat (G) spokesman said
