Kamal accuses PDP of engineering NC’s defeat

Even before polls are announced

Srinagar: Ruling National Conference (NC) Tuesday accused PDP of engineering ‘NC’s defeat’ in the forthcoming assembly elections. NC’s allegations have surprisingly come even before the dates have been announced for the assembly elections leaving many wondering if the ruling party has thrown in the towel already.

“Emergence of BJP in some parts of valley and Ladakh region is because of the PDP- BJP secret alliance. We lost the Ladakh parliament seat to BJP because PDP supported them,” NC’s Additional General Secretary Mustafa Kamal told Kashmir Monitor over phone.

Kamal believes that if NC loses the upcoming elections it will be because of the PDP.  “PDP is doing a covert support to the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). They are making roads clear for them to even enter into Srinagar city,” he said.

Kamal, who is the uncle of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, also said that all those parties who want elections on time are actually the enemies of people. “We are in the government so we have more responsibilities than others. We want the rehabilitation of people but some parties are so hungry for power they prefer elections over people’s hardships,” he said.

The NC legislator said he doesn’t agree with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to hold the polls on time as it will affect the functioning of the government at this crucial time when people need them. “The chief Minister is personally involved in the relief and rehabilitation process,” he said.
Kamal also said that PDP is making roads clear for BJP’s entry in Kashmir especially in Srinagar city. “This party (PDP) is another face of BJP,” he said.

When asked how they were prepared for the forthcoming elections in such circumstances, he said his party (NC) doesn’t need to prove. “Our six years work speaks itself,” Kamal said.

Blaming PDP for the Amarnath land row, Kamal said it was Mufti Muhammad Syed who engineered the Amarnath Land row by transferring land to the Amarnath shrine board.  “It was then PDP minister Qazi Afzal, who as a forest minister was asked to transfer land to Amarnath Board. BJP took due advantage to create communal tension in 2008 and managed to win some ten seats from Jammu,” he said.
