Separatist leaders put under house arrest

Srinagar: All separatist leaders, including chairmen of both the factions of the Huriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) were put under house arrest in Kashmir valley, on Monday.
This was the second time since the devastating floods in the valley in September that separatist leaders have been put under house arrest.

Earlier on Prime Minister's visit to Kashmir on Diwali, restrictions were put on these leaders.
Official sources said it was a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the valley today, when separatist organizations have called for a general strike as on this day in 1947 Indian soldiers for the first time landed in valley on the request by the then Maharaja to push back Pakistani raiders who had entered the valley in north Kashmir.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman of hardliner HC was again put under house arrest since last evening, a spokesman of the amalgam Aiyaz Akbar said.
He said a large number of security forces and state police personnel had been deployed outside the Hyderpora residence of Geelani who was informed that he cannot leave till further orders.
Chairman of moderate HC Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq was also put under house arrest in his Nigeen house since last night, a spokesman of the Huriyat said.
People Political Party (PPP) Hilal Ahmad War has been taken into preventive custody from his Maisuma residence.
