Shah calls for shutdown on Oct 27

Srinagar:  Terming October 27 as “black day” in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat Conference Jammu Kashmir leader and chairman Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Ahmad Shah has called for complete shutdown on the said day and said the people of Kashmir will continue to observe this day as black day till there is complete withdrawal of forces from the state.

“With the partition of subcontinent, India annexed the state forcibly, against which the people of Jammu and Kashmir launched a movement and continue to do so, but India left no stone unturned to suppress the legitimate right of Kashmiris and used military might to quash the freedom movement of Kashmiris,” Shah, who has been put under house arrest, in a statement said.

Shah said it was the issue of Kashmir that became a cause of conflict between the two neighbouring nations, India and Pakistan following which the then Prime Minster of India, Jawaharlal Nehru took the Kashmir issue to United Nations Security Council over which 18 resolutions were passed in this regard but are not implemented hitherto because of India’s stubbornness and non-serious approach.

“We want this long-pending issue to be resolved in the light of UN resolutions or through tripartite dialogue between India, Pakistan and Kashmiri pro-freedom leadership in order to ensure peace in the whole of south Asia particularly the subcontinent,” Shah said.
