In Srinagar, mercury drops to below freezing point

Srinagar: The minimum temperature overnight dropped below the freezing point, recording at minus 0.2 degree Celsius, for the first time this season here.

"The minimum temperature was minus 0.2 degree Celsius during the night in Srinagar city. This is the lowest recorded temperature this season so far in Srinagar city," Met Office director Sonam Lotus told IANS Monday.

Lotus said the night temperatures are likely to drop further during the next seven days in the Kashmir Valley and the Ladakh region due to
expected dry weather during this period.

"Pahalgam recorded minus 3.6 and Gulmarg recorded minus 0.4 during the night," added Lotus.

Leh town and Kargil recorded minus 9.6 and minus 8.7 degrees Celsius respectively.

"The minimum temperature in Jammu city was 9.1 degrees Celsius", Lotus said.
