SC ‘favours’ relaxation in MCC

Providing relief to flood victims

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday asked the Election Commission (EC) to give its response on whether to relax the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the flood-wrecked Jammu and Kashmir so that the government can continue doling out relief material to the victims of the natural calamity.



The Apex Court on its part has favoured relaxing the MCC in the state to let dispersion of relief material by the government to the flood victims.
The EC last had announced the poll dates for state elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand.
The Assembly elections in this two states will be held in five phases between November 25 and December 20 and counting of votes will take place on December 23.
Jammu and Kashmir was hit by severe floods which caused enormous devastation in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spent Diwali with the flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir and had also announced a major relief package for the rehabilitation work in the state.
