Srinagar: The Meteorological (MeT) department Friday predicted light rainfall in Kashmir valley till Saturday (today) afternoon and said a dip in day temperature by 7 degree Celsius has been witnessed across the Valley.
“Light rainfall is predicted across Kashmir valley till Saturday afternoon,” a MeT official told Kashmir Monitor.
The MeT official however ruled out any possibility of heavy down pour and said that weather conditions would improve by Saturday afternoon.
The MeT official said that due to the light rainfall since Thursday night, there has been a dip by 7 degrees in the day temperature across the Valley. “There has been dip into the normal day temperature by almost 7 degree Celsius due to which a cold wave was witnessed across Kashmir valley,” he said.
On Thursday, the day temperature recorded by the MeT department was 20 degree Celsius which has gone down to 13 degree Celsius by Friday afternoon, he said.
The MeT official told Kashmir Monitor that upper reaches have received light snowfall due to which day temperature recorded at some isolated places was below 10 degree Celsius. He added that the maximum temperature at tourist destinations Pahalgam and Gulmarg was recorded at 8 and 6 degree Celsius respectively.
He said that there has been an increase in the night temperature due to the cloudy conditions.
The MeT official predicted light to moderate rainfall in Jammu region till October 26. “Light to moderate rainfall in Jammu region would continue till 26th of October,” he said.
Meanwhile talking to Kashmir Monitor, a senior official of Highway Police said the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for traffic on Friday. “Traffic on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway plied normally,” he said.
