4:05 pm: Shiv Sena, Congress MLAs stop Maharashtra Governor Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao's car from entering Vidhan Bhavan to address a joint House.

3:50 pm: Congress MLAs ​stage dharna against the BJP government outside the Maharashtra Assembly​. Prithviraj Chavan is leading the protest.

3:45 pm: Maharashtra Assembly's newly-elected Speaker Haribhau Bagde rubbished charges of bias by Shiv Sena and Congress, says he acted as per rule.​ A news channel quoted Bagde as saying that Prithviraj Chavan is calling this government as illegitimate because Congress didn't get the post of Leader of Opposition.

8:40 am: The legislators of Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena, and Congress have convened a meeting within their circles to decide on the floor test and the Speaker's post.
Shiv Sena, in its fresh editorial published in Saamana, hit out at the NCP, saying the BJP cannot win the trust vote with the help of a `mouse`. The BJP will disrespect mandate if they take NCP's support, added the editorial.
Shiv Sena has issued a whip to its 63 legislators, ordering them to be present in the House when Fadnavis seeks a trust vote.
Shiv Sena will take a decision whether to abstain, vote for or against the government by 9 am.
The Speaker' election is considered the first big legislative test for the BJP minority government coming just before the vote of confidence in the Assembly this afternoon.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had yesterday called upon all parties to ensure a "unanimous election" to the august post without a contest. He said he would discuss the issue with the leaders of of the Shiv Sena and Congress to forge a consensus.
The Congress had indicated that it would support the candidate of Nationalist Congress Party but since the latter did not field a candidate, the Congress decided to put up its own candidate.
Bharatiya Janata Party's legislator from Phulambri (Aurangabad) Haribhau K Bagde on Tuesday filed his nomination for the post, besides Shiv Sena's Vijay Auti, the member from Parner (Ahmednagar) and Congress' former minister, Varsha Gaekwad from Dharavi (Mumbai).
The Bharatiya Janata Party has an effective strength of 121 members in the 288-member house after one legislator died recently, and the support of one member of pre-poll ally Rashtriya Samaj Paksha.
The stage is set for Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to seek a vote of confidence in his minority government on Wednesday.
