Jharkhand, J&K Assembly polls LIVE: BJP leader allegedly enters into a brawl with voter

  • J&K CM Omar Abdullah reacts to the alleged thrashing and tweeted, “The BJP candidate in Srinagar who earlier threatened to pick up a gun over Art 370 now slaps a polling officer.” 

  • Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Javed Qadri enters into a brawl with a voter in Mochwad reportedly claiming that he did not have a voter slip. 
  • Around 30.06 percent voting was recorded in Jharkhand till 11 am. The highest turnout was reportedly in Sindri with 40 percent, followed by Tundi with 39 percent.
  • PDP's Mufti Mohammed Sayeed casts his vote in Bijbehara. After voting, he told ANI, “We will be on our own, won't need anyone's support”.
  • Around 10 percent voters have cast their ballot in Jammu and Kashmir till 10 am despite the cold weather. The turnout in Samba was recorded at 13.56 per cent while it was 12.71 per cent in Vijaypur.
  • Omar took to Twitter and shared his experience about voting. He tweeted, “7 months ago when dad came out after voting for himself he quipped that he'd done a selfie, I guess now I've done a selfie as well.” 

  • Over 13 per cent voters turned up in Jharkhand in the first two hours of polling to cast their vote.
  • Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah casts his vote in Sonwar, Srinagar. After casting his vote, Omar told ANI, “Voters are smart, it matters how they feel about the work that I have done.”
  • The key candidates whose fate will be decided in the fourth phase include former chief minister Babulal Marandi contesting from Giridih seat. Ministers Mannan Mallik of the Congress, Haji Hussain Ansari of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Suresh Paswan of the Rashtriya Janata Dal are among the other prominent candidates in this phase, the .
  • Voting for 15 Assembly seats in Jharkhand began at 7 am and will end at 5 pm in Dhanbad and Bokaro constituencies. The exercise will, however, end at 3 PM in the rest of the constituencies of Madhupur, Deogarh (SC), Bagodar, Jamua (SC), Gandey, Giridih, Dumri, Chandankyari (SC), Sindri, Nirsa, Jharia, Tundi and Baghmara, many being Maoist-hit, the PTI reported.
  • A queue of voters started building up in the Khimer and Chatterhama villages of Sonwar constituency, where state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is contesting from.
  • A considerable number of early voters had turned up at Pahalgam, Doru, Shangus and Kokernag constituencies of Anantnag district, while voter turnout was low in the two constituencies of Shopian and Wachi of Shopian district, according to IANS.
  • Voter turnout in the morning was very low in Idgah, Habba Kadal, Khanyar and Hazratbal constituencies as well, but poll officials said the turnout would start to pick up as the day progresses.
  • Just two voters waited outside one polling station in Amira Kadal constituency in Srinagar as the doors of the polling station were opened to voters at 8 a.m. In Batmaloo constituency of Srinagar, only four voters came to cast their votes at a polling station, the IANS reported.
  • Few voters turned up to cast their ballot amidst tight security and freezing temperatures in the in the three districts of Srinagar, Anantnag, Shopian and Samba in jammu and Kashmir.
  • Polling for Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir began at 8 am.
  • Ahead of the polling Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to urge voters of both states to cast their ballot.

Polling for the fourth phase of Assembly seats in Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir will begin on Sunday.
The voting will take place on 18 seats in Jammu and Kashmir and 15 seats in Jharkhand.
In Jammu and Kashmir, over 14.73 lakh people will cast their vote at 1,890 polling stations in four districts of the state Srinagar, Anantnag, Shopian (Kashmir Valley) and Samba (Jammu region).
Meanwhile, a total of 43,48,709 voters are eligible to vote and will decide the fate of 217 candidates.
Among those contesting elections in Jharkhand include former Jharkhand CM Babulal Marandi who is contesting from Giridih constituency.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is contesting from Sonwar Assembly segment of Srinagar.
