Around 50-60 heavily armed LeT militants waiting across LoC to infiltrate: Sources
Jammu: Around 50-60 heavily armed militants belonging to
the Pakistan-based dreaded terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba
(LeT) are believed to be waiting across the Line of Control to
infiltrate into the Indian side even as the security forces have
tightened vigil along the International Border, sources said on
Thursday.
"There are about 50-60 terrorists at the launch pads on the other side (PoK) waiting at the international border," Rakesh Sharma, Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF) said while talking to reporters
today.
Sharma further added that security measures have been
intensified on the Indian side to check any untoward incident.
On Wednesday, Lt Gen Subrata Saha, the General Officer
Commanding of Srinagar-based 15 Corps, had warned that at
least 150-170 militants trained in Pakistan are waiting to
cross into the Indian side of the border.
Lt Gen Saha said that heavy snowfall and inclement weather
in the region is further aiding these militants to slip into the
Indian side.
It is alleged that Pakistan has been violating ceasefire along
the International Border and engaging the security forces in
cross-border firing in an attempt to help these militants to
infiltrate into the Indian side.
The security forces have recently foiled several attempts by
the Pakistan-trained militants to sneak into the Kashmir
Valley by taking advantage of inclement weather and heavy
snowfall in the region.
Lt Gen Saha had sometimes back warned that there are
around 200 heavily armed terrorists across the Line of Control
waiting to infiltrate into the Kashmir Valley.
United Nations, Intelligence Bureau, Military Intelligence and
various other agencies have also warned of possible terrorist
attack by Pakistan-trained terrorists during United States
President Barack Obama's visit to India on January 26.
In view of the intelligence inputs provided by various agencies,
the Home Ministry has reviewed the security arrangements in
and outside vital installations and important public places.
The Home Ministry has also asked the security forces to be on
high alert and increase surveillance.
