UP cops suspended for 'dressing like Singham, Dabangg'

AGRA: If you too liked reel avatars of an Indian cop in Salman Khan-starrer Dabangg and Ajay Devgn's Singham, here is a reality check. Two constables in Agra were suspended
on Saturday evening, precisely "for dressing like Bollywood heroes, and not the real cops".

During a surprise inspection of various police stations in the city, inspector general (Agra zone) Sunil Kumar Gupta found two constables,
Manish Solanki and Bhupendra Singh, who are posted with tourism police here, rather too nattily dressed.

One of the constables wore dark goggles while the other was in pants "too tight for comfort".

The prescribed police caps were also missing. Gupta took objection to their dressing sense, which he said, was more in sync with Bollywood
than the prescribed uniform rules. He asked them not to "dress like Singham and Dabangg" and instead follow police manual. The senior
cop did not let them off, of course, without a dressing-down.

Later when senior superintendent of police Shalabh Mathur came to know about the incident, he suspended the constables for
"indiscipline, disobedience and not wearing police uniform properly".

The constables, who had been associated with tourism police from past two years, were reportedly good at their jobs. Sushant Gaur,
inspector at tourism police station, said, "I would say they were good at their jobs."

But for senior cops, perhaps uniform is a serious matter where no exceptions can be made. SSP Shalabh told TOI: "Wearing black goggles and tight pants are not the part of
police uniform. Wearing a cap is also compulsory for each constable. These things matter a lot."

Following the suspensions, Mathur has ordered a drive to check uniforms of cops across all
police stations in the district.

During the Saturday's surprise inspection, 33 other constables from various other police stations were also asked to report to the SSP
and explain their positions on several issues.

Four were left with warning while 14 were appreciated for being "well-dressed".
